Annapolis REMO new initiative keeping residents informed - Alertable is here!
Annapolis REMO Now Offering Alertable! ANNAPOLIS COUNTY – Annapolis REMO will be celebrating Emergency Preparedness Week (May 5-11) with the launch of Alertable, a new initiative to keep residents informed and up-to-date during an emergency.
Alertable is a multi-purpose communication service used to send alerts to residents, businesses, and visitors during critical events like fires, floods, and evacuations, as well as for relevant day-to-day communications such as severe weather or other hazards, emergency preparedness information tips, reminders, and more.
Brian Orde, Annapolis REMO Coordinator, said this easy-to-use app will go a long way in helping to get the word out quickly and efficiently in an emergency. “By signing up, people will get notification of any critical happenings in their area. The app allows people to select specific geographical areas, so whether they live here or are coming for a visit, this will keep them informed.”
Alertable is highly rated, made in Canada, and is free for the public. It provides many alerting options including text, email, phone (landline), website, mobile app, social media, home smart speaker and more; people can choose a combination that’s right for them.
“Council is very pleased to see Annapolis REMO offer Alertable as an aid in keeping our residents informed and safe during an emergency. We encourage residents and visitors to sign-up and use this innovative app to stay aware and plan-ahead.” - Annapolis County Warden Alex Morrison.
“Alertable will be a very important tool in keeping the public notified of any dangerous events that may be occurring. Once residents sign-up, they will have peace of mind knowing that they have immediate access to up-to-date information during an emergency." – Town of Annapolis Royal Mayor Amery Boyer.
"Middleton is fortunate to be able to tap into the Alertable tool. In addition to obvious emergency notifications, we also see the importance of its broader use. We encourage all citizens to get signed up." – Town of Middleton Mayor Sylvester Atkinson.
People can download the free Alertable app for iOS and Android smartphones and sign up for free email and/or SMS notifications; messages can also be delivered via landlines if there is no access to a smart phone or the Internet.
“Notifications are fast, reliable and easy to see and hear,” assured Orde. “You can even personalize notifications by type and severity and choose notifications for more than one location - home, office, cottage, family, friends and more.
”As an extra incentive, people who sign-up for the Alertable app via Annapolis REMO will have their name go into a draw for a generator. The winner will be announced on September 30, 2024. For more information about Alertable and/or Annapolis REMO visit www.annapolisremo.ca .
